May 2008

My mouth is only beginning to thaw after a trip to the dentist. I was only half disappointed by the turn in the weather. If it had have been nice I probably would not have done much anyway. So, progress is halted on the project….

Although some things are still making preparations for the new house….

Last night we sat outside and dined al fresco. Then we attempted to identify all that flew overhead. Tonight the fire is being lit and we are trying to identify where we left the TV controls.

First Tillie had to inspect the building materials.

Then I spent the day digging, mixing, cementing and measuring.  I even had to do a little trigonometry.  The base has to be perfect.

As I did this I ran a little experiment on some bits and pieces.  I let some computer fans whir away in the sunlight.  This will become part of the greenhouse heat sink.  Very geeky, but with green fingers.

Climbing was canceled this evening. The hall in which the climbing wall lives was being used. The lovely Sharon and I were very disappointed. For a few weeks now we have been going climbing. I used to climb years ago (mainly indoor climbing), but the lovely Sharon is just beginning. It turns out that her tall, thin, lanky slender frame makes her perfect for climbing. Initially she was petrified on even the very simple climbs. Now she has surpassed my ability level in only two weeks. ***sigh***

Instead of climbing we went for a long jog. On the route we passed a house which does not seem to like cats or superheroes. Every time I run past it I am hit by a very loud and annoying high pitched sound deterrent. It has to be the loudest I have experienced as I even have to cover my ears. The lovely Sharon does not understand as she is oblivious to it. I have also noticed that as we sit out in the garden in the evenings, reading and sipping wine,  I can here the bats coming before I can see them. I am uncertain if I have always been like this or if it was only after I was bitten by that radioactive shrew.

Today I measured the speed of light using marshmallows.

She is late to come home. She is jittery. She is quiet. When she is in, and not in bed, she sits on the window ledge and stares at the cows. She has never seen a cow. Tallie is scared of cows. Her sister* tillie is a different story. In the summers tillie is sometimes spotted taunting the cows and then running like mad. It’s a game she plays.

We are hopeing that tillie will look after her little sister and teach her to not be scared of these monsters. However, it is more likely that tillie creeps up behind tallie and whispers “mmmoooooooooo”.

*not really her sister
